The depth of meaning within this aptly-named work of art by Argentine Karen Herrera takes a moment to fully realize. Herrera uses a swirl of colors along the edges of the work in a vibrant twist of emotional importance. The formation of those colors sets itself against a central black center, which helps to bring forth the figures of a mother and her child in stunning visual contrast. These reverse-silhouettes of vibrant color on a black background gives a sense of life emerging and providing protection from the darkness outside of the two figures’ embrace.
Unquestionably, Karen Herrera is a powerful artist in the Latin American art world. Her work has been shown recently at the Exposición Internacional “Catedrales y Castillos” in Venezuela. Additionally, at the Exposición Internacional de Arte in Brazil.
Her body of work moves seamlessly between the abstract and more impressionistic art forms, with her work being filled with a passionate combination of colors and a sensual cast of characters that work together to gracefully depict simple examples of life.
Recently Karen Herrera’s work became a valuable part of Wentworth Norton Villas’ Spring Art & Garden Exhibit in April 2022, an event that brought Latin American and world art to our small local community in Redlands, California. Not surprisingly, one viewer at our Villa event inquired about Amor Eterno, because the painting meant that much to them.
